Open Graph Image Examples

January 27, 2023 by Nancy Fields Leave a Comment

I often get requests from my website customers that increase my knowledge and expertise.

This week one of those requests came from Betty Ann Dean, owner of Vibrant Bodyworks.

Betty Ann uses Facebook Messenger to communicate with many of her customers. The problem was, whenever she replied to someone in Messenger this image popped up…

The image linked to the site, but the text below the image had nothing to do with her business.

Betty Ann wanted to know if there was a way to remove the text below the image?

It was an easy fix…

…once I discovered that her problem was her open graph image.

What is an open graph image?

An open graph image is an image from your website that appears in your social media account (such as Facebook Messenger). The image will be randomly selected unless you specify what image you want your social media account to use.

Facebook open graph image size

The recommended size for an open graph image is 1200 px X 630 px at 72 dpi.

Here’s what I did to fix Betty Ann’s problem

  1. Researched “how to debug an open graph in Facebook Messenger”
  2. Uploaded an image without text using YOAST SEO
  3. Cleared her website cache
Success! The text has been removed.
