In Search of Yellow! Part I

February 2, 2016 by Nancy Fields 10 Comments

Years ago I read that if you want to sell any product at the cash register, package it in yellow. Butterfingers and Peanut M&M’s! Could it be that two of my favorite sweets happen to be wrapped in yellow? Does Veuve Clicquot champagne taste better because of it’s marigold label?

Recently a client enthusiastically declared “I love yellow!”

Wow. She’s as passionate about color as me…except…my first reaction was, “Yellow has never ‘done it’ for me.” Really?

Her comment, and my taste buds compelled me to know more about how to best use this sunny hue as a designer.

Might as well go right to the source

What better way to learn how to ‘use’ yellow, than to study the masters?

Orchids lead the way

Color has a powerful subconscious effect on every part of our lives. Yellow is about warm and happy and creates a sense of cheerfulness and playfulness while stimulating the logical side of the brain and mental clarity. Since most of us are stressed out it is so easy to reach for a little yellow at the checkout. Coincidence?

Subconscious, yes. What a surprise to be aware of how many yellow things I chosen to surround myself with at home. What a surprise — and a topic for another blog!

Very interesting … I’ll have to start paying more attention to what I purchase – and its color. I do love yellow because it’s bright and cheery. I don’t know if it has any impact on my purchases though. I guess we’ll see.

A bright and sunny pick-me-up, for sure.

Color is a great way for us to put a brand together. Great post Nancy.

I recently met an up-and-coming cosmetic/skin care diva who chose yellow for her brand. She’s also a ballroom dancer. Guess what color she wears in competition? If you guessed yellow, you’re right!

I too love yellow!! It symbolizes hope and the promise of a new day to start fresh! Plus it makes a garden pop!
