I’m a graphic designer who also builds WordPress websites. WordPress is a relatively new pursuit: Graphic design is not. 15 years into my 21 year-old business, I lost a large account and learned the hard way, it’s tough when you put all your eggs in one basket.
I was beginning to doubt about my abilities and wonder if it was time to “throw in the towel” when a very wise business coach told me, “People don’t know what you do, Nancy. You’ve got to get out there and promote yourself.”
At first this seemed crazy. I’d developed an impressive list of customers, all of whom pay on time, but my business coach was right: I had too few clients and never promoted myself. So, in July 2012 I started learning what it takes to “get out there,” in today’s on-line world. It has seemed like a lot of work, without a lot of reward, but I’m beginning to see a glimmer of light. Plus, along the way I’ve learned about SEO, Google Analytics, content marketing, and have even discovered I enjoy blogging — on a weekly basis. Never before have I been so bold as to attempt to blog every day.
Well…here goes. I’m jumping in with both feet to meet the BAD 100 day challenge.
