Okay gals. Listen up. If you want to find a really great guy, you’ve got to get smart.
I’ve been missing my nearby WordPress Meetups for the past few months so decided to check-out a local Meetup for web developers & web designers the other night. Much to my surprise I was the only female. It was held at a local restaurant/bar that served locally brewed beers, and light meals.
Tip No. 1: Beer is such a guy thing.
Tip No. 2: Website development is such a guy thing. You know, all that computer language and behind the scenes programming — were all the cool stuff happens.
Web developers love talking code school: Ruby, Rails, Java Script, CSS. Much to my surprise they also love talking about their equally smart girlfriends, about whom they speak with the utmost respect. Mind you, I was overhearing guy-to-guy talk about their girlfriends. It was truly touching.
Okay. I hate to admit it, but I’m old enough to have given birth to half the Meetup group. In fact, my two sons would have fit in better at this venue than their mother, but non-the-less, the website developers welcomed me. Those who I spoke to seemed genuinely interested in my design background and my business experience.
Thinking about this Meetup the following day brought back memories of my sons, when they were in their early teens. On weekends I would often drive them, and their friends, to an indoor skate park that allowed rollerblades, skateboards and BMX bicycles. One particular day, while watching this pack of hot and sweaty teenagers cruise from one half-pipe to another for hours on end, it dawned on me that the guys always did “guy things” on Saturday afternoons while we girls were sequestered behind our girlfriend’s bedroom door wondering what the guys were doing: in particular, if they were obsessing about us, too. Nope. They were just doing what guys do, and having a lot more fun that we worry warts: he loves me, he loves me not, he loves me…
So girlfriends, instead of “…wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’…” learn some code.
