The 7 steps to create a WordPress Author website are listed below, but first I want to share why authors should choose WordPress over all other website platforms.
True Story
My client introduced me to her colleague who has a beautiful website. The problem was no one was coming to her site to buy her services, or her book.
“Can you help me get found online so I can sell more books?”
“Yes, but…
…the website you like was built in WordPress which can accommodate longer, more descriptive URLs. The URL structure is one of the reasons why the site shows up on page one of Google.
Your site was made with Squarespace. It is a beautiful website, but Squarespace websites cannot create the same URL structure as WordPress, and that makes all the difference.”

“Another reason your website is not being found online is because the words you use in your URLs are too broad.
For example, your URL for medical intuitive readings, does not describe what you do. It just says readings: https://www.websitename.com/readings.
A better URL structure would be, https://www.websitename.com/medical-intuitive-readings
In addition, your ‘Readings’ page is missing the H1 Tag.

I went on to explain that H1 Tags help the search robots understand what a website is about so they can ‘serve up’ articles and blogs to people who are searching for an answer to their query.
After the H1 Tag, the robots read the H2 Tag.
This site’s H2 Tag was a quote from another famous author. The robots would not likely associate that quote with her service, medical intuitive readings.
I also told her, it would help to have more copy on each page that contained keywords related to the main topic of each page.
“Is there anything else I can do to get found online, without switching to WordPress?”
Yes:
- Focus on one service such as, intuitive readings
- Do keyword research to discover what words people are typing in to find, intuitive readings
- Add content that answers questions about intuitive readings so that prospects feel understood
- Advertise on the social media platforms where your prospects spend their time
You don’t have to learn SEO or…
…become a content machine. And you definitely don’t have to start from scratch or waste time cobbling it all together on your own.
When your website is strategically designed and search-optimized from the start, it works like it’s supposed to. It reflects your expertise, attracts your ideal clients, and brings people to your site want to buy your services and your book.
So if you’ve been doing great work but still feel invisible online—maybe it’s not you. Maybe it’s your website.
Let’s change that.
